Course Overview

This course has been specifically designed for learners without a background in the Community and Social Services (Client Services) – Eldercare industry. This competency unit enables the learner to participate in planning, conducting, documenting and reporting of activities based on clients’ needs.

Entry-level care workers without a background in the Community and Social Services (Client Services) – Eldercare industry.

Course Outline

Part 1 – Participate in planning activities for clients

  • Establish profile and conditions of clients accurately
  • Consult relevant stakeholders using appropriate communication methods to identify specific needs of clients and potential barriers to participation
  • Participate in planning appropriate activities by considering relevant factors to meet clients’ needs
  • Obtain approval for proposed activity plan in accordance with organisational procedures
  • Prepare resources and services for activities in accordance with organisational policies and procedures


Part 2 – Conduct activities to meet clients’ needs using the person-centered approach

  • Assess clients’ suitability for participation in activities prior to commencement, taking into consideration their special needs and barriers to participation
  • Gather resources for activities in accordance with activity plan
  • Prepare clients for participation in activities in accordance with established organisational procedures
  • Conduct activities according to plan and Workplace Safety & Health (Healthcare) Guidelines
  • Make adjustments to activities according to conditions and clients’ needs
  • Apply appropriate techniques and person-centered approach to support well-being of clients with dementia during activities
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours that minimise the impact on clients


Part 3 – Document and report conduct of activities

  • Report conduct of activities clearly and accurately in accordance with organisational guidelines
  • Highlight incidences and abnormalities in a timely manner and in accordance with organisational guidelines

Mode of Assessment: Practical assessments and oral questioning
Training Methodology: Lectures, role plays

Certification Obtained and Conferred by

Upon completion of the course, a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued.

Funding Information

Skills Development Fund (SDF) and SkillsFuture Funding:

  • Participants must attend at least 75% of the course, complete the exam with a pass or competent result.
  • Online applications are not applicable to companies applying for funding with Absentee Payroll.
  • Workforce Training Support (WTS) funding only applies to trainees who are 35 years old and above with a monthly income of $2,000 and below.

For Company Registration:

  • Customers who are applying funding for trainee(s), please submit Training Grant applications in SkillsConnect website before registration.
  • Training Grant number is to be submitted together with the registrations.
