On completion of this module, participant will be able to identify roles, responsibilities and development opportunities in cleaning industry, follow basic environmentally friendly cleaning practices and adhere to basic preventive maintenance cleaning practices

Who Should Attend

General cleaning personnel deployed at residential housing estates, office complexes, shopping mall, airports, MRT stations, bus depots including residential and commercial complexes

Course Outline

1. Identify roles, responsibilities and development opportunities in cleaning industry

  • Major Sectors, within the cleaning industry, and the common types of cleaning services being offered
  • Cleaning activities contribute towards maintaining a clean and sanitary environment
  • Roles and responsibilities of people employed within the cleaning industry
  • Career and learning progression opportunities in the cleaning industry
  • Organisational policies and procedures relating to scope of cleaning work
  • Process whereby routine work order procedures are received, understood, and followed in the correct sequence according to the established organisational procedures
  • Adhering to personal hygiene and cleanliness standards in accordance with established organisational procedures
  • Adhering to the relevant workplace health and safety practices in accordance with established organisational procedures and applicable regulatory requirements 

2. Follow basic environmentally friendly cleaning practices

  • Cleaning work cycle of different work sites according to industry's cleaning requirements and established organisational procedures
  • Common types of pollutants associated with cleaning practices which  may pollute the environment
  • Appropriate methods for dust mopping to limit the particulates in the air
  • Appropriate methods for dusting to limit the particulates in the air
  • Extracting maximum amount of water, from surfaces, to limit the presence of moisture and the resulting mildew and bacterial growth
  • Identifying appropriate methods for safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals
  • State the need to conserve water and the possible method of using water efficiently

3. Adhere to basic preventive maintenance cleaning practices

  • Common health hazards associated with different types of pests
  • Primary causes for the breeding and growth of active pests and animals
  • Methods to perform basic preventive pest management
